Year End School Children Party

Friday was Ethan last day of school for 2011, the school have a party where the students are asked to bring a dish to share with all teachers and children. This year I just prepare a simple and easy potato salad cup for the teachers and some konyaku jelly for the kids. ( I made bento snack box for the kids last year)
The salad in the cup idea was from a japanese bento blog.. i simply love the idea for party and picnic or even road trips.
Wrapped the plastic food cups with pink and green ribbon, and decorate the quail eggs with cute details, attached a small thank you card i made together with Ethan on the cover.
Hope this bring smiles on the teachers' faces. I want to say Thank you to all the teachers for their patience, kindness and guidance during the kids' tender years.
Good teachers make a great difference in the early stage of their lives.

Bento No. 102 - Totoro Family

Happy Wednesday Everyone! I love Monday and Wednesday as these are the two days i will make bento for E for his school snack. And I can share my bentos with fellow bento lovers.

I just love making another Totoro bento again, can't get enough of them..hehe..
I chose a farm fresh tiny egg for the big Totoro, and 2 quail eggs for the blue and white smaller totoros. Use a tiny drop of blue food colouring to dye the quail egg for the sky blue.

Cut a grape into half and make 2 soot balls. If you are not familiar with Totoros, I strongly recommend you to watch "My Neighbour Totoro". Its a nice Japanese animae from Ghibli collections.

You can take a look at my previous blog post, if you are interested to know more about the stories of Totoro.

Bento No. 98 - Little Chicks

Since I still have some quail eggs left, I made a nest of chicks today. Inside the box are E's favourite fruits - Grapes, Longan and Starfruit.

E's school concert is coming soon, he will be having his rehearsal next week. He seems to like it this year ( he was crying and not wanting to join the dance practice last year).

Hopefully he will have a successful performace. Year end is approaching, which means E's playschool year is coming to end.

He will be in Kindy next year.. wow.. my boy is growing up so fast..

Bento No. 83 - Cut the rope

Every Apple fans out there would know the ipad / iphone game called " cut the rope". This is also an equally addictive game as the angry birds. Actually me, my hubby and my boy loves to play this game and even compete who has the highest scores. :)

The frog like creature is called "Omnom", we need to cut the rope at the right timing so that the candy will drop into Omnom's mouth.

Omnon is made from Pandan cake, i added a few quail eggs and grape fellows in th box too.

Bento No. 20 - Sausage and Egg Rice Bento

After a long break of holiday, Ethan has finally back to school. As always, we all bit on lazy mode, so I made a simple bento for him. Just boil some sausage and fried some omelete.

All kids love sausages, although we know processed meat is not healthy. hee.. but think its fine to have some for once in a while. :p

Bento No. 14 - Toy Story : The Little Green Men

I always tried to make some different bentos during weekends when I have more free time.
This Sunday I planned to make the Little Green Men with Quail Eggs. I love Buzz light year and these green Aliens from Toy Story.
After picking up tips on how to colour the Quail eggs from other Bento mums, I give myself a try.
I grab some food colouring from my Mum's kitchen, as she has tonnes of this as she is a home professional baker.
Dip some blue and green colour in seperate bowl of plain water, keep rotating the eggs.

It turn out a nice green for the head and Blue for the outfit for the Little Green Men.
However, I did not cut the black dots for the eyes as I am rushing to go out.
So it does not look perfect like in the picture as i intially planned.

My Boy ate all of them while I clear the left overs of the Quail eggs.

After this bento, E starts to request a Theme for his next Bento. He asked for Buzz Lightyear and Woody.

Oh dear, I better start prepare for my next challenge. :)

I realised sometimes when I upload the my pics on my blog, the pic rotate vertically, but i cant find the function to rotate it back, any advice anyone?

Bento No. 5 - 3 little Miss Quail have fun on the boat

As Ethan does not fancy hard boiled eggs, I am thinking of give it a try on Quill eggs instead.
i bought some quail eggs and mini sausages during my grocery shopping today.
so i decided to use both of them for Ethan's Bento.
The food pick looks like 3 different colours ribbon on the 3 little Miss Quail eggs.. and they are happily enjoying themselves on a boat.
Few octopus are floating by to have a peek on the 3 pretty ladies..haha..
This also reminds me of my 2 younger sisters.. Hope we can have fun together sometime. :)
oh ya.. i got to mention, Ethan ate the Quail eggs.. Yipee.. but only after he dip the quail eggs with some maggi soy sauce..
I am still happpy that one more choice added on his menu now..
mission accomplished..
